The Tenerife Film Orchestra was formed in June 2005 and is the first private symphony orchestra in Spain dedicated exclusively to the recording of film soundtracks and for the audiovisual field in general. This project enterprise, created by the composer Diego Navarro and the solo clarinettist Michael Kirby, is to fill a hole that exists in the Spanish film industry. Until this moment there has never been a means to satisfy the ever increasing demand to record film music soundtracks in this country. With this new service we are widening the offer of European orchestras to enter into the film industry. It is important to emphasise that this formation is made up of professional musicians and soloists of a very high order that are asked to join the orchestra depending on the project to be recorded. Not having a stable season established, the availability of the orchestra depends and adapts to the production schedule agreed to previously.

The essential idea when creating the Tenerife Film Orchestra is fruit and direct consequence of a new link opened within the industry in April 2002, with the recording in Tenerife of the original soundtrack of the animated feature film Puerta del Tiempo. With Antonio Mingote as artistic director, directed and written by Pedro E. Delgado and produced by Angel Blasco (Magic Films – Filmayer), this film was nominated for the Goya Awards of the Spanish Film Academy in 2003. The music score was written, orchestrated and conducted by Diego Navarro, who took the total musical production to the Canary Islands, with the special conviction that in Spain it was possible the realization of musical super-productions of this scope. In the recording, interpreted by the Orquesta Clasica de La Laguna, there were 120 musicians, between the choir and orchestra, and 10 professionals including sound engineers, recording producers, assistants etc. A total of 130 professionals took part in an event which made a mark, never seen before. This event has been considered as the largest musical recording production for the Spanish film industry in Spain.

Puerta del Tiempo meant, for the first time, the recording of a peninsula original film soundtrack in the Canary Islands, an event that forms the base for the continuation and development of this activity.

The photographs, together with the film poster, shown on the web were taken during the recording of Puerta del Tiempo by the photographer Jordi Verdes in April 2002, and in them one can appreciate the scale of staging of such an event.

There are many reasons and attractions, that this formation can offer, to come to Tenerife and record, all of which we will explain in each chapter on the web page. As an introduction, we would like to point out that a little over two hours by plane, from Madrid, one discovers a paradise island, a micro continent with an annual average temperature of 23º which gives the sensation of living in an eternal springtime. Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands, the highest in the world in relation Km2-altitude, crowned by the majestic Teide peak, a fantastic volcano that reaches a height of 3718 m. A territory, with vast amounts of micro climates and the idea of island-continent, always surprises every visitor. On the other hand, Santa Cruz, a modern beautiful European city that offers every type of service. The orchestra has a fantastic technical and human infrastructure for recording any type of soundtrack. We have a complete team of highly qualified technicians with a vast amount of experience in this field supported by the most advanced high tech equipment which guarantees maximum quality when handing over the final master.

The prices that we offer are highly competitive and always adaptable to the overall costs of the production of the film (more information in “Contact”) . Another attractive incentive is the home of the Tenerife Film Orchestra, where we record, which is the Guimerá Theatre in Santa Cruz. It is the oldest classical opera theatre in the Canary Islands (19th Century). Totally renovated, it offers optimum conditions and acoustics for the realization of any orchestral recording.

We also would like to highlight out that we have exceptional offers for hotels with special prices available exclusively for our clients, by a negotiated agreement, with four of the most important establishments on the island.

Tenerife Film Orchestra, the new and most complete alternative for the recording of soundtracks for the film industry.
